JSTOR is running a current journal syndication pilot. This pilot lets users browse and search current journal issues on JSTOR ahead of the moving wall. Users at institutions that subscribe to journals directly from the publisher and have a license to the journal’s archives on JSTOR have full-text access on JSTOR.

Who has access to the current journal issues?
All JSTOR users can search and browse the current issues. Full-text is available only to users at institutions that subscribe to individual journals (not journal collections) from Duke University Press and that license the journal archives from JSTOR.
How does JSTOR know which institutions subscribe to specific journals?
Duke University Press provides JSTOR with a list of institutions that subscribe to each journal. If those institutions also license the archives of that journal through JSTOR, JSTOR provides access to the current issues.
What is different about the user experience when accessing content through the syndication pilot?
Journal issues ahead of the moving wall are discoverable by searching or browsing the journal volume and issue pages. Once a user clicks on an article link, they will get the full-text if their institution subscribes to the individual journal from Duke (not journal collections) and licenses the journal archives from JSTOR. If they are not authorized, they will receive the same access options page that we provide across all content on JSTOR.
Will usage for syndicated current journal issues show in COUNTER reports? Where will I find it?
Institutions will see usage for syndicated content in COUNTER 5.1 usage reports available through the JSTOR Admin portal. Usage will be reported as Item_Requests when an institution has access to the content and as No_License when it does not.
This usage will be reflected in the following COUNTER 5.1 reports:
- Database Master Report (DR)
- Item Master Report (IR)
- Platform Master Report (PR)
- Title Master Report (TR)
Should I add the availability of this content on JSTOR to my discovery services?
No, not during the pilot. Should JSTOR move forward with a broader program, we will provide details to support discovery through various other providers.
