In addition to saving what you find on JSTOR, you can supplement content in your Workspace by uploading your own images through the Uploaded items tab.
Your uploaded content can be used with all of the tools available in Workspace including:
- Exporting items to PowerPoint, PDF, or ZIP
- Presenting and comparing items in full screen
- Sharing items with other members of your institution
Uploading items to Workspace
To upload items to your Workspace:
- Log into your Workspace.
- If you’re an Artstor user and haven’t logged into JSTOR before, you can use your Artstor username and password.
- See how to register for a free personal account on JSTOR.
- Select the Uploaded items tab.
- Select the Upload button.
- Drag and drop or select up to ten (10) image files from your computer to upload.
- JPEG and PNG image files no larger than ten megabytes (10MB) each are supported.
- Add metadata such as title, date, or description for each item.
- While only the Title field is required, adding metadata can help when searching and sorting your items later.
- Please note, at this time it’s not possible to edit items after uploading, but this feature is planned.
- When you’re finished, select the Upload all button.
Once your items have finished uploading, it may take a few moments for them to become visible in your Uploaded items space. Clicking an item thumbnail will take you to the item’s detail page, where you can use the IIIF image viewer to zoom in or out, compare the image alongside other content, or view it in full screen.
The detail page also includes your item metadata, a stable link to the item (only accessible if the item is added to a folder and shared), and identification of who it was uploaded by.
Organizing and sharing your uploaded items
Items in your Uploaded items tab are visible only to you, including in JSTOR search results, until you choose to add them to a folder in your Workspace and share the folder link with other members of your institution.
To add an uploaded item to a folder in your Workspace:
- Log into your Workspace.
- If you’re an Artstor user and haven’t logged into JSTOR before, you can use your Artstor username and password.
- See how to register for a free personal account on JSTOR.
- Select the Uploaded items tab.
- Select the Add to folder button next to an item thumbnail and choose a folder to copy the item into.
- Your original uploaded item will remain in the Uploaded items tab.
- As with saving items you find on JSTOR, you can add multiple copies of the same uploaded item to your Workspace folders by selecting the Add to folder button again.
- Optionally, share your Workspace folder with other members of your institution.
Tip: Currently, uploaded items can be added to folders one at a time using the Add to folder button. However, because your own uploaded items appear alongside JSTOR content when searching, you can also search for your uploaded items, select one or more from the results, and use the Save button to save them to your Workspace in bulk.
Deleting uploaded items
At this time, it’s not possible to delete items you upload to your Workspace, but this feature is planned.
As a reminder, uploaded items are not visible by other users until you add them to a shared folder and provide a link to that folder to other members of your institution.
