Sharing a folder
You can share a Workspace folder, including all items and subfolders within the folder, with other members of your institution via a shared link.
Users will see your folder in the sort order and view (gallery or list view) you've specified each time they follow the link. They can also view the contents in a different order if they choose or copy the folder to their own Workspace.
To share a folder:
- Before you share your folder, use the Sort menu to sort it in the order you'd like others to see it in when they click the link you share with them.
- Please note that "Custom order" applies only to items within a folder, and does not apply to subfolders. If your folder contains only subfolders or you haven't specified a custom order for items in the folder, the sort order will default to "Last modified" instead.
- If you change your folder's sort order after you've shared the link, you'll need to copy and share the link again if you want others to see it in the new order. This is because changing the sort order adds a sort parameter to the link URL.
- Once your folder is sorted in the order you prefer, open the drop-down menu for the folder by clicking the three vertical dots after the folder name.
- Select Share link.
- Select the institution(s) you'd like to share the folder with.
- If you're a member of multiple institutions, you have the option to share your folder with one or more of them.
- Click the Copy link button to copy a link to the folder which you can then share with other members of your institution.
Stop sharing a folder
You can turn off access to a shared Workspace folder at any time. If you choose to share the folder again in the future, the share link to the folder will remain the same.
To stop sharing a folder:
- Open the drop-down menu for the folder by clicking the three vertical dots after the folder name.
- Select Share link.
- Deselect the institution(s) you'd like to stop sharing the folder with or click the Turn off link sharing button to deselect all institutions listed.
Copying a shared folder
Similar to duplicating a folder, you can copy a folder that's been shared with you to your own Workspace.
You can then use the copied folder like any folder in your Workspace, such as saving additional items to it, adding a description, or sharing it with other members of your institution.
To copy a shared folder:
- Follow the link to the shared folder to open it.
- You must be logged into your personal JSTOR account and through your institution to see a folder shared with you. If you don't know how to tell if you are logged in through your institution, see Access: How to tell if you are logged in.
- Click the Copy folder button.
- When the copy is complete, you'll be redirected to the copied folder in your Workspace.
- By default, the copied folder will be named "Copy of [Original Folder Name]" but you can rename it by clicking the three vertical dots after to the folder name and selecting Rename from the overflow menu.
The copied folder in your Workspace will include a link back to the original shared folder, and the original shared folder will indicate when you last copied it with a link to the most recent copy in your Workspace.
