What causes linking errors?
Linking errors can be caused by a variety of reasons including incorrect metadata on JSTOR platform, outdated or incorrect metadata in our Partner’s systems, or incorrect configuration of an OpenURL.
What do linking errors look like?
User may encounter the following message or alert when linking from their Library’s Discovery Layer to JSTOR:
"Your inbound link did not have an exact match in our database. But based on the elements we could match, we have returned the following results."
Resolving linking errors
Resolving linking errors requires coordination between JSTOR and our Discovery Partners to fully identify and investigate the issue and work to resend and re-index metadata. If your institution encounters a linking error when trying to link from your Discovery Service Layer to JSTOR, please find below some helpful information:
If the linking error appears to be the result of incorrect JSTOR metadata, please report the issue to JSTOR at discoveryservices@ithaka.org. In order for JSTOR to fully investigate the error, please provide the following information when reporting the error:
- Link that is causing error
- Title of resource you are attempting to access
- What Discovery Layer your library uses
- Test credentials to library’s website to replicate linking error
If the linking error appears to be the result of incorrect metadata in our Discovery Partner’s systems please use the appropriate URL to report the error to your Discovery Service Provider:
