When viewing images on JSTOR you can use compare mode to compare up to four images together in a single full-screen view.
You can also view images with and without the image details, and whether you select to show or hide image details, your selected preference will persist for any images you view afterward.
There are two ways to use compare mode:
- While viewing an image item page, use the Compare button in the image viewer.
- While presenting an image in full screen, use the More items button.
Depending on where you're presenting an image from, an item drawer will open to allow you to choose additional items to present or compare with the current item:
- Search Results - If you're presenting an image from search results, you'll be shown additional images matching your search term(s). You can also search for additional images or other items on JSTOR by providing your own term(s).
- Workspace - If you're presenting an image from your Workspace, you'll be shown items from the same folder. See Workspace: Introduction to Workspace for more information.
Click on any item thumbnail to switch out the current image you're presenting for a new one. Or select the checkbox next to an item to compare it to the current image. You can compare up to four items at a time.
Once you've chosen your desired item(s), click the Close button to close the thumbnail drawer.
- To save an item to your Workspace, use the Save button.
- To zoom in on an item, you can use your mouse or trackpad’s built-in zoom functionality or use the Zoom in or Zoom out buttons.
- To set an item to fit the width or height of the viewer, click the Fit to width/height button.
- To remove any individual item from the screen, use the the Close this item (X) button.
- To leave compare mode, use the Exit full screen (Exit) button.
